Dear Ramona,

May 13th is Mother's Day. To some this day holds grand memories of cookies, and bed time stories, and a home filled with love and laughter. To others it just brings memories of a broken childhood. To me a mom is someone who loves you no matter what you do, someone who encourages you when you're not sure if you can do it, it's someone who helps you to grow into a compassionate, responsible adult. Let's face it people.... That may not have been your mom. But probably, there is someone in your life that was just like that....a nurturer. So this month, I encourage you to remember the nurturer in your life and celebrate your relationship with them by sending them a note, or a card, or a big box of chocolates, of course!

Just this month, we've started baking "little" cakes. As is our tradition, we like to do everything small. Our 3.5" x 3.5" custom cakes are big enough for four people and small enough that you won't have cake for a week left over. There are three types of cakes to choose from--Chocolate Fudge, Vanilla Pound, or our Black and White Cake which incorporates one layer of chocolate fudge cake and one layer of vanilla pound. Each cake has a ganache filling and is covered with chocolate. There's plenty of room on the top for a special message..... Like.... let's see...... Happy Mother's Day.

We have a limited supply of cakes in our pastry case or you can special order one. Mother's Day cakes must be ordered by May 10th but the earlier, the better so we can plan ahead. Cakes are $7.25 each.
who_is_the_baker
Well, let me tell ya! The baker is Sandy Pearse. She's been a member of the Island Angel Team for just over a year now and she knows her stuff! She's a retired Home Economics teacher from the Mukilteo School District and when it comes to baking, she's numero uno.

She'll be bringing you some new pastries in the coming months... including cherry cheese, blueberry, and a plum balsamic vinegar pastry--sounds kind of different. All guaranteed to be wonderful. Is there something you'd like to see in our pastry case? Drop us a line at isleangl@whidbey.com and we'll see what we can do. And congratulations to Sandy for a fantastic first year on our team.

Gabby_Waller
Our newest team member is Gabby Waller. Gabby will be in our shop to serve you Monday and Tuesday afternoons and Friday and Saturday mornings.

She comes to us with a smiling face and a customer friendly attitude and a willingness to learn all the stuff we do here at 1 Angel Place, Chocolate Bar. We're very excited to have her and hope you will stop in to say welcome.

When she's not at the chocolate bar, you can find her at Just B salon in Langley Village where she is an accomplished colorist and stylist. She listens to her customers and that, in my humble opinion, is the most important thing a stylist can do.... listen and do what the customer wants. She did it for me and she'll do it for you too.
Last year every Saturday in September, 1 Angel Place, Chocolate Bar and Langley Clock Shop presented Concerts in the Lane with Rainey. It was so much fun and we've had so many people say how much they enjoyed it that we're going to do it again. Beginning Saturday, July 7th and continuing through the summer, we will present Summer Concerts on the Lane.

If you are a musician or know of a musician that would enjoy sharing their talents with Langley on a Saturday afternoon in the summer, call 221-2728 and we'll make it happen. We'll provide a ten by ten covered area and electricity to equipment and we'll notify the papers of your performance. And we'll have a summer filled with fun and music.
