Dear Ramona,

IT'S SUMMER! YES! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! IT'S FINALLY HERE! Well now that you know my true feelings about the warm weather, let's talk about all the wonderful things that are happening this summer.

First, Concerts on the Lane begins this Saturday, July 7th at 1:00 PM. Carlos and Chuck start us off. They'll be tantalizing our ears with beautiful flute music, keyboards and vocals. And while they're filling us with music, we'll be offering chili dogs and chips to fill your tummy and all sorts of drinks and chocolates in our chocolate bar.

Don Izette has been working on the deck and it will be completed any day now and we will be able to open the back door again. We'll be putting up the canopy for the concerts here in the next week and transforming the back area into a seating area. I hope you'll come by and take a peek! Alas, the sweet smell of flowers and chocolate and the sound of music. What else is there?

Chocolates Santander
An introduction to Chocolate Santander, the only single origin chocolate produced in Columbia and one of South America's most special, takes it's name from the State of Santander, Eastern Colombia. The privileged terrains of the Andean mountains of Yariguies, yields Colombia's best cacao known by its exquisite and delicate flavor. The incomparable cacao is the result of the region's unique geographic and agricultural conditions: elevation 600-900m; temperatures 23-28 degrees C; relative humidity 75- 80%; rainfall 1,600-2,500 mm in two yearly seasons and 1,600 average sunshine hours per year and microorganisms - rich fertile soil.

Peasants in the Santander municipalities of San Vicente de Chucuri, El Carmen, Rionegro and Landazuri have been growing cacao for more than two centuries in medium-size and small farms that sustain over 12,000 families. Cacao pods, in colorful yellows and reds, oranges and violets, are hand harvested with scissors and forks, split-open with short machetes, sorted, fermented in wooden boxes, and then dried in the sun on wooden boards, all according to a centuries-old tradition that brings out the outstanding organoleptic attributes of Chocolate Santander.

The special features of Chocolate Santander: it's natural origin, the mix of Trinitario and Criollo cacao, the rural tradition, the modern processing and quality- control technology are the pride of Compania Nacional de Chocolates. Remarkable of this exceptional family of exclusive single-origin chocolates are the outstanding flavor, the richness of its floral and fruity aromas, and the distinctive nutty hues, attributes that will doubtlessly please the palates of the most demanding chocolate experts.

We offer the full line of Chocolate Santander bars. Come in and try this exquisite line of decadent chocolate.
Chocolate Granita
With the summer heat comes Chocolate back in the Granita Machine. Sooth your parched lips with a cold icy chocolate granita. And if fruit is more your style, we have a wide selection of fruit granitas--lemonade, raspberry, mango, banana, strawberry, pomegranate, orange, and much more! I can't wait!

And remember we also make iced Latte's and coffee's to quench your thirst. All iced drinks are 16 oz and are only $3.00. And don't forget to get your card punched so that you're 10th drink is FREE!
Island Drift Away
New in the chocolate case is The Island Drift Away Truffle. This is a tea infused truffle. It is created by simmering Chamomile Tea and Lavender in the cream, emulsifying with a touch of honey and white chocolate. Then it's dipped in dark chocolate and topped with candied violets. It's just what you need to relax yourself into Island Life.
Ice Cream Bars
The cafe has several frozen treats to choose from. We have Whidbey Island Ice Cream Bars in chocolate, vanilla, and blackberry. You can order them up naked or cover them in our very own chocolate, dip them in almonds or sprinkles and have at it. They are messy but they are more than worth it. YUM YUM YUM.

Also, this year we have frozen bananas. And we can dip those in our awesome chocolate and roll them in nuts or sprinkles too! This is a sure way to cure the summer heat and still eat healthy.
